The 11th Malaysia-Thailand International Women Artists Exhibition from September 11 until October 26, at the University of Science Malaysia, Tuanku Fauziah Museum & Art Gallery was held, exhibiting works by 77 women artists from 15 countries. The exhibition time is from 9 am to 5 pm.
The event was hosted by Jade's Art Space and won the venue sponsored by the University of Science.
Jade Beh, chairman of the preparatory committee for the event, pointed out that in addition to China and Thailand, this year's women artists also come from Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Myanmar, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, Scotland, Norway, the United States, Australia, Mongolia and the United Kingdom.
She said that the works on display include watercolor painting, acrylic painting, oil painting, ink painting, mixed media painting and ceramics.
She pointed out that 10 years ago, female painters were not common. Many of them held multiple jobs and had to take care of their children for housework. Some had to take care of family and career. Usually, they didn’t have much time to paint. The more full-time female painters, it also means that the works of female artists are willing to listen.
She said that the exhibition was held to provide a platform for women artists to display their works and to communicate with women artists from various countries. Compared with male artists, women artists tend to express their inner and life expressions.
Yeoh Soon Hin, chairman of the Penang State Tourism Development, Monuments, Culture and Arts Committee, delivered a speech on behalf of the Penang state chief Chow Kon Yeow, saying that through this event, local artists and culture can be displayed to foreign artists, and the local characteristics and tourist attractions of my country, especially Penang, can be introduced.
Participants were Dr. Asma Ismail, Dean of the Institute of Women and Gender of the University of Science, Zolkurnian Hassan, the director of the Tuanku Fauziah Museum, and artist representative Rosalynn Teoh Phaik Eng.
